Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
If you’ve missed it, last week I shared a first glimpse of my next book, codenamed here as Project Red:
A first glimpse into my next book
Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
Until now, everything was very much under wraps, but with this reveal I can show a bit more than a couple of rocks or part of a tree every now and again. It won’t be much until an official announcement, but it will be something.
A week of penciling
I spent nearly the entire week working on pencils for 12 pages more of Project Red. I haven’t quite finished it all but Monday I’ll be printing these for inking. I might juuuuust finish it tomorrow, but I usually work very light on Sundays so no promises there.
Either way, we’re in a good place in terms of pace, so nothing to worry about.
Now, enjoy some crows and a horse:
This week I also did a tiny bit of writing to flesh out an idea referenced in the last newsletter (where I applied the 70 scenes breakdown method popularized by David Lynch), but less than I wanted. Assembling a bed for my twin daughters stole some valuable time for side projects, but they were ecstatic about the whole affair (both the assembling and the new beds), so there’s that.
Recommendations
As me and Rick were talking about many of the things we want to do in Project Red, I was reminded of a scene from Game of Thrones that might be one of the best character introductions ever conceived. A good portion of it comes from the excellence in acting that is Charles Dance, but we can’t deny there’s an extraordinary bit of script to build it all up. I’m talking about Tywin Lannister’s first appearance in the show.
Wether you’ve seen it years ago or have yet to see it, here’s a fantastic YouTube video breaking it down and explaining its many hits:

It’s all for now, folks.
There will NOT be a newsletter next week as non-comics related work is forcing me into a couple of exciting meetings, therefore exploding with my always tight schedule.
I’ll see you soon enough,
André
These pencils are looking fantastic. Also, so much power and movement with that horse. Well done!
