Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
I apologize for the unannounced small break in newsletters, because even though I mentioned there probably wouldn’t be one in the first week of April, I ended up extending the break for an extra week to catch up with work as much as possible.
It was for good reasons, and you’ll see the results of it all in the next weeks. For now, let me recap how the convention went down in Barcelona.
Comic Barcelona
April begun with a comic convention, a place I’d last been in pre-Covid times. Turns out that story was shared by a few of us. For me, the last one was NYCC 2019.
Spanish publisher Norma Editorial, which publishes all Rick Remender and Co. books, invited Rick and all of his collaborators to be present. Our editor Arnau Paris took care of it all and he was a fantastic host. It was a really neat idea and, even though not all of us could go, we ended up with a pretty nice ensemble. In the end, it was me, Rick, Matteo Scalera, Greg Tocchini and Bengal.
We started our first day with a bunch of interviews and photo sessions. Greg, the last one to arrive, came with a folder full of his originals which blew away our collective minds. It will blow yours as well once that stuff is published.
Our schedule was then filled with either panels (both collective and individual ones) and many signing sessions. Once Norma knew I’d be there as well, they pulled all the stops to grab rights for Phenomena as well, with our editor Arnau working non-stop in order to print the book in time for the convention. I ended up signing and sketching on what seemed like endless numbers of Spanish editions of Phenomena and A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance.
And below some pictures of the panels:
Norma Stand
Norma Editorial really did an amazing job with everything. Not only they took care of us in every possible way, but they did quite an effort to put our work on the spotlight. Their stand had roughly 1/4 of it dedicated to just us and their main wall was covered with our artwork. It was impressive to see the massive Phenomena cover standing that tall.
The Gang
The overall experience was great. Going to a new city, meeting all the fans, seeing dozens of our books being moved in a new language, it’s all fantastic. But the high point has to be meeting the gang and enjoying the company of some of the most fantastic creators in the business. I couldn’t say enough good things about all of them, as kind as they are talented. I’m proud and humbled at the same time that I’m able to be among them. Here’s a pic of the last night, in the hotel bar, where we laughed for four hours straight. Everything combined, those are the moments that make all the work have meaning.

I’ll leave this one with just the con stuff, but there are also many news from the past two weeks to share: Phenomena news, new gig announcement, Righteous Thirst Deluxe news, etc so look forward for a packed newsletter next week!
