Convention Prepping
Little art book & commissions
Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
I’m advancing as much as possible into a new issue of Project Red, now that my work on The Sacrificers is done WHILE getting things in place for my presence at the Heroes Dutch Comic Con, on November 22 and 23. There I’ll be doing all the things you can expect:
Speaking on a panel called Why Creator Owned Comics (alongside Greg Rucka)
A live drawing with Q&A about backgrounds (with Danny Earls)
Sitting at a table for some commission work and signing/remarques. I’ll also have some things to sell, including a little art book. And speaking of it:
Art Book
I managed to put together a small and simple art book to sell at the convention and other events. It will feature raw scans from my creator owned books and a sample of my cover work, with only small adjustments so you can see the brush strokes, nib lines, white pen and even blue pencils. It’s 50 pages long, with scans from Man Plus, Phenomena, Righteous Thirst and Sacrificers, plus a few covers.
For those of you interested, I’ll eventually put it for sale on my website, when I organize a store there of some sort, together with some original art.
Here are some photos of the final book, which is slightly bigger than a normal comic book:
Pre-Show Commissions
I’ve also been working on some commission work for the Utrecht show. This morning I managed to wrap pencils on a Daredevil piece. I even managed to get the first bit of inking in, just to be able to say I’ve started it. It’s a trick for the brain: getting a stage started means it’s ongoing, no matter how little you did. When I get back to it, it’s much easier to pick it up and hit the ground running.

There will be no Castrum next week, but after that I’ll write a full report about my time at the Heroes Con in Utrecht. Looking forward to hang out with readers and friends there!
See you soon,
André
P.S. I’ve been obsessing with Physical: Asia, the third season of Physical 100, now featuring a bunch of countries from Asia instead of the all South Korean cast of the first seasons. What a show! Highly recommended.

I’d love to get a copy of your Art book!
I hope to see you, sooner or later, here in Italy.
