Heroes Dutch Comic Con
All that went down in Utrecht
Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
I had a hell of a time in Utrecht. Between signing, commissions, sketches, photos, puking (more on that later) and chatting, there was hardly a moment to breath.
I was part of a line up of fantastic comic guests handled by the great David Macho Gomez. David manages a bunch of Spanish artists and gathers a line up of half a dozen special guests for a few select European comic cons. When it’s up to him, we’re always impeccably taken care of. That being said, the convention’s staff was also top notch people, so I came with zero complaints.
In the photo above, you can see the line up as we gathered for an end of the show group picture. From left to right: Me, Daniel Acuña, John Timms, Todd Nauck, David Macho, Michael Lark, Nick Lowe, Ben Smeares and Marc Ellerby. Greg Rucka and Danny Earls were also part of the bunch, but were not present at the moment. A great gang to hang with.
In regards to the puking part: I got food poisoning on Saturday and had to cut the day short halfway through the afternoon. Litters of vomit were released and the next day, feeling better, I was fully back at it.
Pictured above you can see me drawing a commission on a cover, still unaware that all the food from the breakfast and lunch would come out through the top.
And speaking of convention commissions: here are all of them!
First, a Daredevil pre-show commission, fully inked and with screen tones.
Sonny, from Righteous Thirst For Vengeance.
Spike and Matilde, from Phenomena.
A Spider-Man UK.
And Kai, from Akira!
There were also plenty of excellent chats with some old and new readers, a couple of artists showed me their work (I saw some inspiring stuff in it), some excellent dinners among our gang (excepting the puking day, of course) and even time for some sight seeing around Utrecht. The city was described to us a mini-Amsterdam by our driver and he was spot on. Lots of bikes and canals, less tourists. I’ll leave you with a picture of the place of our last dinner, which was an amazing building by the canal in the historic center, transformed into the most amazing restaurant.
Now on Sale:
Phenomena Book 3 (and 1 and 2)

All of those sketches are great, but that Daredevil is truly incredible!
