Nothing but drawing
For the first time in a while
Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
Now that Project April (non comics related - this one is a TV pitch) has been submitted, nothing is left to do on it but wait. We have a few months of waiting guaranteed - and this is in case it goes well.
That freed me up to dedicate myself entirely to drawing for the first time in a while. For the last two weeks I’ve been penciling and inking non stop. So much so that I even dropped last week’s Castrum to keep momentum going.
Project Red Update
On the comics side of things, my book with Rick Remender keeps going strong. I’m already into issue 7 if you can believe it, with its entirety being already penciled and with inks well underway.
I spent a few days doing a pass on all the pages with these two brushes.
The FP5F (the grey one) is one of my favorite tools in existence. Slow brush strokes apply ink like any other, but the slow flow of ink means that if you use it quickly, you get a dry brush effect. It’s incredibly practical to have something as precise as it is (the fine point allows the thinnest of lines) and ready to go at all times.
The Pocket Brush (the orange one) has a stronger flow, so I use it mostly for solid blacks and/or less precise stuff.
With all the brush work done, I’ve gone back to the beginning, now to draw everything else with the nib. Just moments ago I was laying the last touches on page 7.
Commission
Comics wasn’t the only thing on my desk though, as I managed to finish and send a very special piece this week. It was a Sesame Street commission, a subject near and dear to my heart as I watched quite a lot of it when I was a kid. This will deserve a proper step-by-step soon, but I’ll leave you with a taste for now:
Original art sale
A reminder: my originals from The Sacrificers and Silver Surfer Annual were being exhibited in Bordeaux. The exhibition might be over BUT: Just click here and you’ll be able to browse and buy any of the pieces being displayed at the gallery from the comfort of your home.
Pages keep being sold, but plenty remain if you’re interested.
ALSO: I’ll have VERY exciting news about my originals soon. Wink wink.
