Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
Last week had to be skipped due to the sheer amount of work and kids activities, but here we are again. This week was actually a very satisfying one, with a return to the monthly comic stands with The Sacrificers #10. Throughout the last few weeks there have also been a number of covers of mine finally hitting the stands, and we’ll take a look at all of that today. ALL OF IT! Seriously, it’s a lot.
The Sacrificers 10
Out this week, comes my first Sacrificers issue. It’s my first monthly book (covers aside) hitting the stands since A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance reached its finale with issue 11. It has been a minute.
It’s always hard jumping into a moving train like a monthly series, especially one entirely designed by a single creator. My main challenge was to make sure I could honor what Max (Fiumara, co-creator of the book) had done and try to not disturb or change things too much. Ideally, all new designs (be it characters, places, objects, clothing etc) would’ve have been done side by side with him, but the luxury of an extended schedule was not one we had. Nonetheless, I’m extremely happy with the work we did, especially since I’ve just finished this week my third issue for the series and the volume and quality of work looks quite good from here. But, as always, the readers be the judges of it. See below some shots of the printed issue from my comps, with colors by Dave McCaig and letters by Rus Wooton.
And a little teaser for issue 13, with the washes I’ve just finished this week:
Ok, now A LOT of covers.
Some of these will deserve their own thing, but they’ve all been revealed in the last couple of weeks so it makes sense to show them all together (even if some were actually done many months ago).
First, the ones I got comps for already. One for Napalm Lullaby, a book by my dear pals Rick Remender and Bengal, with colors by Dave McCaig:
Then one of the covers I did for Ghost Machine, for Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Geiger - a high octane post apocalypse book. It’s impossible to capture it in photo, but the variant on the right has a bright golden finish and looks an absolute banger in person. Colors by Chris O’Halloran (for this one and everything else below).
The second cover I did for the good folks of Ghost Machine was for Geoff Johns and Brian Hitch’s Redcoat. Truly hilarious time traveling adventure.
Another one of my connecting covers for Void Rivals was also published (and I can’t wait to show the full thing put together):
And finally, one of my favorite covers I’ve ever done, for Mattson Tomlin and Lee Bermejo’s A Vicious Circle. I was particularly pleased with the idea and the execution - this one will be certainly worthy of a deep dive and step by step.
That’s more than enough for this week to feast your eyes on! You guys and gals have a great one, see you soon!
André
P.S. Lots of exciting news soon.
Beautiful work as always, André! You make a great compliment to Max's art as well. And that Napalm cover is crazy good!
