Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
Last week I gave you a rundown of my immediate schedule, with the mention of a few covers and a commission. Which prompted me to bring you a look at the work in progress of the various elements: 1 commission, 2 covers and 1 poster.
But before we see them, a reminder (also from last week) that Phenomena Book 3 launch is getting closer and you can preorder it right here.
Update 1: Alien Commission
This one is done, packed and sent. I alluded that this week’s edition might be all about it but I still need to adjust and clean up the digital files, so you’ll get it soon enough. For now, enjoy a sneak peek:
Cover 1 WIP
I’ve just finished inking cover 1 (my laptop is on top of it as I type these words) and it’s for a very, very smart book from a creator I admire very much. It’s for issue 8 and only the first couple have been published, so it will be a while before we see it in its entirety, but I can show you some details:
And perhaps even better, some inking clips.
This is from my Instagram, if you wanna watch it with the original music (AC/DC - Hell’s Bells).
Cover 2 WIP
Cover 2 (for an unannounced book) is penciled and printed, ready for inks. Between that and adding some washes to cover 1, I’ve got the rest of my weekend sorted work-wise. Here’s a peek at what it looks like right now:
Somebody is being torn to pieces, that’s what’s up.
Poster WIP
I’m also working on a poster for a convention here in Portugal. One of the highlights of this week was that the sketch for the poster and the two covers were all accepted right away, so that allowed me to advance on all fronts significantly even with having to finish the Alien commission.
The poster is still in the early stages of pencilling, but the central characters are already in place:
I enjoy the focus of spending weeks working on a single issue of one thing, but I can’t deny it can be equally exciting to spread yourself between a bunch of different smaller things. It can get frustrating if each one comes with problems, but if all goes smooth like butter it will all feel pretty good. Good week it was.

Before I go, I’m rewatching The Sopranos and it’s hard to believe how good it is right from episode 1. I was expecting a slower start, perhaps some not-as-good-as-you-remember-it episodes, but no: it’s pure excellence. There will be more to say about it.
See you next week!

I just completed my first viewing of the Sopranos! What a show. I hated just about everyone by the end but it didn’t stop me from watching. Groundbreaking, still relevant and ahead of almost any other show made since. The Sopranos and the Wire ( on at the same time!) were the true golden age of television. It’s been downhill ever since. The first season of Sopranos is a true chefs kiss 🧑🍳 💋
