I just completed my first viewing of the Sopranos! What a show. I hated just about everyone by the end but it didn’t stop me from watching. Groundbreaking, still relevant and ahead of almost any other show made since. The Sopranos and the Wire ( on at the same time!) were the true golden age of television. It’s been downhill ever since. The first season of Sopranos is a true chefs kiss 🧑🍳 💋
It's just superior storytelling. We're definitely going through a dumbing down in media (and society in general), with characters constantly explaining what they're doing and why. If that's all you've seen, something like Sopranos or The Wire or Mad Men can be quite shocking, but in a very good way.
