Hello from Castrum Lusitania, my fortress in northern Portugal. Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter.
I guess the title gives it a way a bit, but let me tell you right away: this is gonna be a short one with mostly just a few sneak peeks of what went down.
I buried myself in work this week because next week I’m going to be traveling with the family. I still be doing bits here and there, but there were things that I wanted to wrap before leaving. Things that needed scanning, inking, laptop work, etc. And for traveling, it’s gonna be all iPad work.
That meant finishing up two covers, inking many Phenomena pages, finishing a commission and getting other things in motion.
Cover work
I already mentioned it in the last few newsletters, but this month I finished 3 covers on top of all the Phenomena work. They were all for great books, you saw a bit of one last week and here is a bit of another:
I had a lot of fun doing these tiles, particularly because there wasn’t any character getting in the way of it all. Expect full view of this and the others when they are released, of course.
Phenomena Inking Progress
Phenomena Book 3 keeps moving at a very nice speed. I have now more than 20 pages inked of the 47 that are already penciled. And since time had to be split with the covers I drew, I couldn’t be happier with the numbers.
First panel here is the completed version of the work in progress I showed in the previous newsletter.
This last image is the inked version of the digital pencils you saw a few weeks ago right here, from one of my favorite spreads of the book so far.
Commission
Finally, I wrapped a long due commission. This was the almost part where it would be too much for one week and something was gonna give. So I considered postponing it to when I’m back from traveling but I felt the client deserved it on its way sooner rather than later. I pushed really hard yesterday to open up a couple of extra hours, finished it, packed it and sent it on its way to the good old USA this morning. See here a sneak peek, full thing coming soon, with a step by step and all the details.
I’ve shown bits of this when it was in progress, in case you guys remember seeing Doctor Strange floating in front of tentacles.
Next week: No Newsletter.
Since I’m traveling, better skip next week than just write something for the sake of it. So we’ll be back in two weeks with plenty of new things to see.
Have a good one, see you soon.
André
I saw that Dr. Strange commission on your Instagram recently, and it looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing how you brought that one together.
